ICD-10 Summit theme: Start preparing now

I had the opportunity to present at last week's AHIMA ICD-10 Summit in Washington, D.C. The summit was a forum for industry organizations (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), AHIMA, etc.), vendors (Ingenix, 3M, etc.), payers, providers, and other interested parties to discuss the issues, to ensure that all had the same understanding about implementation, and to engage others to share any experiences so far.
The major theme of the event was that every organization needs to begin preparation now in order to be ready for ICD-10 implementation in 2013. The single implementation date of October 1, 2013 was emphasized throughout the conference. A CMS representative in attendance stated that this particular HIPAA change will not be phased in. More...
